Hello everyone, I am Alessandro, a 23-year-old guy from Italy. I first started getting passionate about other languages and cultures at 17, when I went to York, England, to study a term abroad. Living with an English host family and being involved in their day-to-day life has been a deeply enriching experience, which probably set me on the life path I walk today. When I obtained my High School Diploma, I successfully applied to study Psychology and Sociology at university in Edinburgh, Scotland. During the course of my degree, I had the chance to further develop and solidify my English, as well as learn a new language (Spanish). In the following years, I have been involved in a number of initiatives with NGOs in Brazil, including teaching English to children from underdeveloped urban areas and supporting them in their academic and social life. Reaching full proficiency in the English language gave me the chance to observe first hand the difficulties that students are likely to face when learning English as a second language, as well as develop strategies and approaches to overcome them and master those linguistic areas which are most difficult for foreigners, which I believe is one of the major challenges for a language teacher. During my time off studying, I have helped many friends and other compatriots with their language during their first few months in Scotland, which helped me improve my lesson planning in terms of efficiency and effectiveness.

My lessons will generally follow the PPP procedure (Present, Practice, Produce), since this is likely the best way to go through new material. However, after a thorough evaluation of strengths and weaknesses, the lesson design will be adapted to what best suits the student’s natural qualities and inclinations, as well as his/her specific requests (language areas, spoken english, productive skills). I especially value the communicative approach for its many advantages in terms of practicality and efficiency, and because the need for communication is able to stimulate language learning in a spontaneous way. Conversational lessons will also be included if requested by the students.
