I am a biotechnology graduate who also did a TEFL course in South Africa to become a certified ESL teacher. Teaching naturally become my all-time favorite career which I eventually supplemented by studying TEFL. I am also a registered Natural (biological) Scientist with SACNASP, reg no. 123387. Born 35 years ago in the midlands province of Zim I grew up interested in exploring new life avenues with a great entrepreneurial spirit.

The lecturing job in South Africa enabled me to interact with youths cohorts for more than six years, I took it as a platform to encourage them to build professional relationships, participate in different networks especially in their communities for the exchange of information and ideas for future associations or opportunities. I could motivate them to engage and further study in programs with practical skills for promotion of economic growth and development. I taught English, biology and combined science at two separate high schools. I taught conversational English and in the primary health care sector; subjects like public health, human body and mind and the health care system.

I have interest, passion, and experience working with children (teenagers) and adults, I would consider myself as their classroom manager. I was responsible for attending and organizing Work Integrated Learning (WIL) excursions with local health and social welfare institutions for students. I inspired them to develop into sociable individuals through activities l organized and partook with them in the classroom, during athletics, soccer activities, on culture days and orientation week for first-year students. The Primary Health programme that l taught in was new, thus my input would matter regarding the modules l taught, students’ behavior and performance. I would attend sector workshops organized by the national department of higher education (DHET) to streamline curricula to industry needs and the students’ competency levels.

The curriculum workshops allowed sharing experiences (with 11 other colleges) and methods that would constitute best teaching practices. I was also deeply involved in necessitating articulation of students from each cohort since their first graduation in 2015 by recommending deserving, competent students to industry via email and phone calls. l became the trusted lecturer by industry personnel regarding recommendations for students. Gaining the trust of the industry and seeing students developing into full-time employees in the corporate world was the most satisfying experience. Therefore, I would not consider moving to any other sector besides education.

I enjoy working with recipients of a project when doing community work, that will give them a sense of ownership which in turn ensures provision of good, relevant, and quality service. This also applies to my lesson planning and teaching style which would accommodate real life scenarios to which students can relate, I would try and use props, demonstrative videos or practical exercises to accommodate every student’s learning style.
