I have a friendly but professional style which I have developed over 10 years of working as an English as a foreign language teacher. I have taught students from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds in several different countries and use this experience to tailor my lessons to suit individual classes/students. I also bring my experience from an earlier career in office administration as well as my university education in Chemistry, allowing me to present language in a real-world/professional context.

I have extensive experience of teaching Business English and Academic English, including preparation for major English exams such as Cambridge Certificates and IELTS, so these specialist areas are of particular interest to me alongside more general English teaching.

My lessons use modern communicative methodology, focusing on using the target language to achieve real-world goals. The emphasis is on functional language and practical application of language theory. I make use of a variety of materials depending on the requirements of the student, for example news articles, online videos, short exercises from textbooks, extracts from books or other texts, pictures, sample exam papers, etc.
Speaking is the main focus of my online lessons with lots of guided conversation and oral feedback. However written skills can also be worked on as necessary, either in short in-class exercises or longer homework assignments.
