Outside of class, I enjoy spending time in the hills, as well as: rock-climbing, bike-packing, canoeing, skiing and running. I am a dedicated and patient teacher with over three years experience; specialising in preparing students for their 11+ entrance exams and interviews to top British independent schools. I am a firm believer that creative and engaging frames of reference are fundamental to igniting a child’s passion for any academic subject. My freelance work in the film industry has given me multiple opportunities to direct child actors, and this provided a unique testing ground for some of the practical pedagogies I use to teach my current students. I firmly believe that tutoring is as much about building confidence and curiosity in my students, as it is about presenting knowledge in a way that inspires them to love learning again.

I’ll be conducting the majority of my lessons via video. These might be in the form of pre-recorded material but will most likely take the form of live lessons. Depending on the needs of the students, I tend to tailor my lessons over the course of my relationship with any one student. My first lesson is always a little more informal as I’d like to get to know the student before getting down to business. I find that this approach always pays dividends further down the line. Some of my more practical based teaching style is a little unorthodox, in that it’s up on its feet wherever possible. Some homework assignments might be small project work for students to conduct on their own outdoors. I. would always check with parents of any of my younger students before setting any task like this though.
